Seasonal Highway Maintenance & Operations Internship (170001BD)

This Internship Program typically runs up to 15 weeks from May 2017 to August 2017.

Hours vary based on location.

Interns will be paid $12.00 per hour.

Internship departments, titles, duties, and locations include:

– Accident Recovery Program

o Assisting the Accident Recovery Business Management Specialist with other administrative

duties such as filing, scanning, making and answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o Assisting in maintaining and updating Accident Recovery spreadsheet such as permits, accident data, etc.

o Filing and interacting with Accident Recovery Contractors and Patrons.

o Researching, analyzing incident reports and various invoicing processes for potential recoveries.

o Location: Boston

– Central Warehouse

o Assisting in tracking inventory and picking orders.

o Assisting in data entry.

o Technical assistance to other employees.

o Assisting in warehouse maintenance (which includes sweeping, cleaning, restocking shelves

and painting).

o Location: Weston

– District Field Seasonal Maintenance

o Performing outside maintenance functions that include sweeping, painting, litter pickup etc.

o Operating string trimmers (weed trimmer), pick up litter, painting and lawn mowing.

o Locations: Lee, Blandford, Chicopee, Warren, Auburn, Weston, Boston

– EZ pass Program*

o Schedule: Monday to Friday – 8:00 am to 4:15 pm

o Assisting the public in signing up for the EZ pass program.

o Driving the EZ pass van to retail stores for signup.*

o Performing functions as an administrative assistance help, such as filing, scanning, making and

answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o * a valid Driver’s License is needed

o Location: Weston

– General Services

o Perform light duty installs such as white boards, cork boards, typing trays, pictures, shelving,

dispensers, signage, etc.

o Deliver, remove and replace office furniture and office equipment as needed.

o Set-up and break down conference rooms.

o Location: Boston

– Highway Operations Center/Traffic Incident Management

o Support activities and projects associated with all aspects of Traffic Incident Management

o Develop reports and presentations around issues

o Conduct research, recommend program adjustments, identify new guidance issued

o Develop findings and reports to the Director

o Location: Boston

– Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS)

o Support the ITS section in collecting, analyzing and entering data

o Reviewing design plans, developing reports

o Performing daily administrative task

o Location: Boston

– Office Administrative Support

o Performing functions as an administrative assistance help such as filing, scanning, making and

answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o Assisting in data entry.

o Locations: Lenox, Northampton, Worcester, Boston, Weston

– Operational Support

o Locations: Boston, South Boston, Weston

– Sign Shop

o Assist with all sign production tasks.

o Assisting in making signs using the Gerber printing technology.

o Assisting staff in maintenance of shop, stocking, and tracking inventories.

o Assisting in administrative duties, such as filing, scanning and organization of records.

o Location: Medford

– Snow & Ice Operations

o Assist with updating procedures, guidelines, manuals (word, excel)

o Date Entry (SIMS, Excel)

o Assist with mapping Snow Plow routes (GIS)

o Location: Boston

– Toll Collections Operations

o Performing functions as an administrative assistance help, such as filing, scanning, making and

answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o Location: Weston

– Traffic Data Collection Program

o Assisting in data entry

o Performing functions as an administrative assistance help, such as filing, scanning, making and

answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o Location: Boston

– Truck Permitting Office

o Performing functions as an administrative assistance help, such as filing, scanning, making and

answering phone calls, archiving, etc.

o Assisting in processing truck permits.

o Assisting in data entry.

o Location: Weston
